Switch from Sharpreader to Blogline

Many friends using Sharpreader has decided to switch to more light-weight aggregators, such as bloglines, recently. With the growing subsription list, Sharpreader will run in a very slow speed and cost a lot of system resource. It's not the fault of Sharpreader itself, it's the common problem of such .exe client, just like Microsoft Outlook.

Thanks, Stephen. What can I do helps? Ok, just two spam-like links ever appear in the referral list, fyi:

Defiant Downloads Rise From Underground
Recording industry lawyers consider Tuesday's protest, where over 300 Web sites offered downloads of "The Grey Album," 24 hours of mass copyright infringement.

"More than 300 Web sites and blogs staged a 24-hour online protest yesterday over a record company's efforts to stop them from offering downloadable copies of "The Grey Album." A popular underground collection of music, "The Grey Album" mixes tracks from the Beatles' classic White Album with raps from Jay-Z's latest release, "The Black Album."....... "----- [NYTimes]

Of course, I've downloaded it from one of those sites. :)

Referring spam founded on my site
I'm using Stephen Downes referrer script on my Chinese blog, to see who visited my homepage in recent 24 hours. However, I found some strange links in these days, which are all linking to adult sites. Very strangeI can't found any such links on those sites. So it must be a new kind of spam trick again besides junk mail, MT comments spam, etc.

Also, yunshen told me that he found some similar referral links on his Klogs.org site, too. What a spam!

China's Contribution to the WTC Memorial
"It's pretty damn cool, that's for sure, and it sure makes me think, how would China react to a memorial competition for a terrorist act that occured against it on its own soil? I am sure the designs would be in accordance with the actual event, but how would the Chinese do it?" ----[Living in China]

Bravo those architects. No one likes terrorism, nor any country.

Xinhua: Amid a steady rise of corruption cases, China's ruling Communist Party has unveiled its first-ever anti-graft rules which have brought under its purview the party general secretary, Politburo as well as the 68 million cadres, the state media reported today.

Have to take more time to prove, or never.

Centralized service is becoming slower
Some social software services, like Feedster, Del.icio.us are becoming slower than months ago. Feedster has adjusted freqency of crawling severval times as I observed to match the increasing huge number of feeds. Del.icio.us is good for sharing bookmarks socially, however, it's also becoming jam in traffic and data access. Is that a paradox between "maximum sharing" and "performance". Not really, the answer is distribution while still keep well connected in computing.

Blogger API problem fixed
Thanks for Zheng's comment on my last message. I have changed the API entry point to Blogger API. Anyway, why don't they keep compatible entry, it's so customer-unorientation. :(

BTW, I've found more missing links with Blogger.com while they upgrade their service each time. Does Google have the similar corporate culture?

Electricity Teleportation Devised

Researchers from Leiden University in the Netherlands have postulated that an entangled electron could continue its existence at a distant location.

The method could eventually be used to instantly transport information between the quantum bits (qubits) of a quantum computer if electrons could be transported over distances of around 100 microns. ----- [ Technology Review]

Really fancy, can we copy our physical-self to another place via Internet in the future?

Why Blogger API can't work?
In these days, I can't work with Blogger API with this blog. Some BA-enabled tools on both my desktop and laptop all reported "HTTP 1.0 302 found" error. I have no time to check it now. It seems it's not my client failure, but from server. Is Blogger.com server too busy while upgrading to ATOM?

Return of the Son of the Bride of MyDoom
Last week, I thought this whole My Doom thing was over. How wrong I was! Yesterday saw the emergence of "Doomjuice" (written by a Michael Keaton fan, I suppose), a stripped-down version of My Doom. The nastybot targeted Microsoft's Web site yet again, but used a fascinating method to spread infection. Our story details how the virus works and what makes it special. ---- [eletter, ZDNet]

MIT Technology Review, "Ten Technologies That Refuse to Die ", From typewriters to vacuum tubes, these 10 technologies aren??t as obsolete as you might think. In technology, as in biology, we like to imagine evolution proceeding onward and upward. As new species and technologies appear, their primitive ancestors drop by the wayside, right? Not exactly. Mammals, birds, and flowering plants--all relatively recent innovations--might seem to rule the earth today. But far older designs, from barnacles to crocodiles, are doing just fine in their respective niches, thank you. New species don??t always evolve to replace old ones; they also fill vacant niches, which in turn can actually solidify the standing of older species. So it is with technology.
