Editor sacked over Govt critical argument

The editor of an outspoken magazine in southern China has been sacked after publishing an article that criticised former paramount leader Deng Xiaoping for a lack of political reform.

Xiao Weibin, editor of the Tongzhou Gongjin, or One Ship Moving Forward, was removed from his post on September 2, less than a month after publishing an interview with respected party veteran Ren Zhongyi.

The Guangzhou-based magazine quoted Mr Ren, former communist party secretary of Guangdong province, as criticising Mr Deng for failing to launch political reform.

"His main shortcoming was that he did not use his revered position to push political reform," it said. ---[ABC News]

After gmail, Google is testing a new fontier to include more human knowledge in it's search territory. The new search product, called Google Print, that will help publishers get their books listed in a search results page by matching search queries with the content inside a book. 13 mln Chinese have DSL, China becomes the leader in DSL broadband subscribers

China is leading the world in the number of subscribers to high-speed net through phone lines, says DSL Forum. The number of broadband subscribers via DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) has doubled in a year to 13 million. This is, however, only 6% of China's total phone lines.
