The post about Zhao Ziyang on cnblog was orderred to remove

Eventually, the hosting service of cnblog was warned by net police for the post about Zhao Ziyang. The system in darkness does work in it's own way, but foolish and simple. CNBlog team has to remove the post from homepage and archive. There are already 400+ comments for the short message about Mr.Zhao's passsing away. This time the power law of Google page ranking show it's double side effect again. Will social networking based P2P system really solve the problem and win the game in the future?

*update: China cracks down on rights activists

Isaac's sex blog?

For those who care about my sexual orientation, please visit my bookmarks tagged with "sex" on del.icio.us. ;)

Sometimes, I also visit other's sex related content but would like to enjoy my sex life in a private space instead of blogging it here or there. :D

post about Zhao Ziyang was hided on cnblog

Chedong
SMS me that he has marked the post about mourning Zhao Ziyang on cnblog to "draft". He explained that it's dangerous. Now the post shows only the body of content without displaying any comments. I don't think cnblog the site is more valuable than people's voice(maybe it's the only place they can express their feeling in China from my random observation on the number of comments in these two days).

We never delete or modify any post on cnblog before even with many sensitive events(e.g. some posts about censorship). Sometimes we asked guest bloggers writing on cnblog to reconsidering their remarks, but we won't change their post even with our natural privilige on system. So I hope Chedong(as our new technical administrator of the site) can explain to the author and more people to get their understanding to keep open and free cutlure in cnblog. Please do it, chedong.

Keywords filtering by Chinese blog hosting services

The report cooked by Open Net Initiative project, Berkman Center of Harvard Law School. A good start to study censorship on Chinese blogosphere like other studies from Berkman Center(e.g. the google censorship). Somewhat not up-to-date to the hosting service list.

(src: www.opennetinitiative.net )

Derek, ONI director, commented in email to me:
ONI found that three of the largest Chinese blogs (blogbus, blogcn, and blogdriver) now filter certain keywords from posts. Blogdriver's filtering is particularly strong. This new blocking likely validates blogs as an important news and discussion medium in China, since they are now important enough to attract filtering attention.

The comments on Zhao's passing flow into Chinese blogosphere

There are more and more comments to the small piece of message about Zhao Ziyang's passing away on cnblog, seems it's the only way that people can express themselves in China's cyberspace.

At the same time, CPC on Tuesday defended its treatment again from spokeman KongQuan, so weak but stubborn as before.

I can't believe it! So many reflectdions for a short piece of blog post on cnblog, while still growing.

Mr. Zhao Ziyang passed away

He didn't get fair evaluation from current regime even after his death. The offical media only posted a no more than 50 words message. However, blog, shows emergent power again.

Linkedin keens on jobs

The professional Social Networking Service, Linkedin, has published it's beta test of job service. If you are linkedin user, you may have received a letter from Raid Hoffman, cofounder of this SNS, on the service. I don't have enough time to preview this function, but it's obvious that SNS is shaping itself to a more consolidate model in 2005.

I'm now in Beijing to take care of my mother for her serious disease on stomach. I can access internet all the time with CDMA connection, however, it's so difficult to focus on other things. My mother's operation will be made no later than next weekend. So we should prepare as more as better now.

It could be a long journey for her this time to recover. It will also take her many pains to get different kinds of treatment. Hold yourself, mom, many friends and family members are backing you to overcome the evil of illness!

Andrea will attend a media conference in New York on behalf of Social Brain organization. Blog is one of the topics in this conference, so I believe Tsunami could be unavoidable a hot topic this time. How blog can do impacts on social collaboration, social aid, and media resonation could be derived from this disaster in turn.

I'm looking forward to seeing Andrea's reflection on this conference. Also I'm happy to know acer and Andrea will meet and talk in this opportunity.

I applaud that Premier Wen to take more relief materials with his plane to Tsunami summit in Yakarta.

But a fun thing happened when I visit Xinhua English homepage at this link(http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/). It seems the page shows news all in 2002. Incredible. Then I got to know from Xinhua's Chinese site that the English site has changed link to http://www.chinaview.cn. So confusing.

How "Blog" is being hijacked in China

There was an "olds"(not "news") appeared on one/two traditional Chinese media that "Blogchina.com accquired blogdriver.com to become the no.1 IT portal in China". Sounds strange why blog hosting can become IT portal? You idiot, including me. It's a Chinese style.

blogchina.com is a website in news article format since 2002. It's the first time that the "blog" name was hijacked for more than two years since blogchina.com didn provide any blog related services until June, 2004. But this time blog is still an accessory to support blogchina's central media function. Bloggers under blogchina.com can only see how their posts are copied to the homepage free of charge without any clear licence. Blogchina.com are also widely criticized to copy other bloggers' content without any permission even those bloggers put clear "Creative Commons- Non-commercial" on their site. Fortunetely to blogchina.com, it's too high price to sue such small copyright cases in China. The second time, "blog" was hijacted to serve for fewer's benefit.

Comparing to this new 'incident', last two times of 'crime' just gangs on street. More bloggers on blogdriver.com have to change their free writing to blogchina's "writing for benefit" myth. Blog, is always a grassroots media rather than a centrailzed media. Even most of today's blogs are hosted in different hosting service, they are logically free and controlled only by blogger himserf/herself. All the young bloggers(no more than 7 months) on blogchina.com don't know they are "controlled" by a centralized myth for some individual benefits. All the blogdriver.com users have to be "hijacted" to this trap becuase they don't have any rights to choose.

zheng posted on cnblog yesterday just along the "olds". Some guys thought it's also about "imnotboke". Yes, and No. "Imnotboke" is not about the translation of "Blog/Blogger" into Chinese, it's based on the truth to grassroots and free culture. The hijack incident falls into the same category of thinking. Why no at the same time? zheng is a true man never post from his person benefit. He even criticized one of portfolio companies my business invested. I like his calling a spade a spade. He won't stay in just a "imnotboke" to discuss a broad concept.

The hijack is happening, I believe more and more bloggers can understand the cultural differences and choose their choices, freely. I'm happy seeing there are still many choices for fresh bloggers, anyway, there are already tens of blog hosting services already in this country.

Dan Gillmor's new blog

I just found typepad blogs can be accessed here by trying to visit Dan's new blog. The same thing happened on blogs.com, since Rebecca's blog was found to be accessible two days ago. What's the signal?
